The spores (conidia) are brown, 2-celled, and are borne within more or less round fruiting structures (pycnidia). Conidial production occurs on short cells (possibly phialides) that line the inner walls of the pycnidium. There are a number of similar genera that are distinguished on the basis of pycnidial and spore structure. Most species occur on living or dead plants.
