Spores (conidia) produced at the apex of short side branches of the vegetative filaments, dark brown, 2- to several-celled. When the spores are released they retain a small portion of the cell that produced them. The spores of P. chartarum, the most commonly isolated species, have both longitudinal and transverse walls.
